James McIntyre appointed head of future Irish embassy in Morocco

The government of Ireland approved, Tuesday, nominations of new Ambassadors and Consuls General. On the recommendation of the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Minister for Defence, Simon Coveney T.D., the Irish government approved the nomination of James McIntyre as the new Irish ambassador to Morocco.

The official is currently Director of Ireland, UK and Americas Division, the Irish Foreign Ministry announced in a statement. McIntyre will be Ireland’s ambassador to Morocco, Mauritania and Tunisia as «a new Embassy being established under ‘Global Ireland – Ireland’s Global Footprint to 2025'».

Both the embassy in Morocco and the new Irish consulate in Manchester are expected to «open later this year», the statement concluded.

The announcement of a new Irish embassy in Morocco was made in June 2019. It was confirmed, more than a year later, in a tweet posted in early September by the Irish Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
