The Ministry of Habous and Islamic Affairs announced on Sunday that Morocco will observe the first day of Ramadan on Tuesday, March 12th. This decision comes after authorities were unable to sight the crescent moon, signifying the end of Shaaban in the kingdom on Monday, March 11th.
Tuesday, March 12th, 2024 marks the beginning of Ramadan for Muslims in several countries, including Australia, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Brunei.
In Australia, The Grand Mufti, the Australian Federal Imams Council, the Australian Fatwa Council, and the Council for Fatwa and Sharia Arbitration jointly announced on Sunday, March 10th that the crescent moon had been sighted and confirmed by astronomical calculations.

This means Monday, March 11th marks the completion of Shaaban and Tuesday, March 12th is the first day of Ramadan.
Following moon sighting ceremonies held in 29 locations across the country, Malaysia's King, Sultan Ibrahim, announced on Sunday, March 10th that Tuesday, March 12th signifies the start of Ramadan.
Indonesia's Minister of Religion, Yaqut Cholil Qoumas (Gus Yaqut), announced the official start of Ramadan at the Ministry's office in Jakarta on Sunday, March 10th. A special committee (isbat session) determined that the first day of Ramadan (1 Ramadan 1445 Hijriyah) falls on Tuesday, March 12th, 2024. Unfortunately, the new moon won't be visible due to its low position.
Similar to other countries, Brunei Darussalami also announced that Tuesday, March 12th, 2024 (corresponding to 1st Ramadan, 1445 Hijrah) will mark the beginning of Ramadan. This decision follows the unsuccessful sighting of the crescent moon (hilal) at designated observation points across Brunei.
The announcement was made on Radio Television Brunei (RTB) this evening. To prepare for the first day of fasting on Tuesday, Brunei's Muslims will begin special evening prayers (Sunnat Tarawikh and Sunnat Witir) and Quran recitations (Tedarus Al-Quran) tonight, Monday.
Singapore, along with the other mentioned countries, also observes Tuesday, March 12th as the first day of Ramadan.
Germany will begin Ramadan on Monday, March 11th, 2024, with Eid al-Fitr on April 10th. The Coordination Council of Muslims in Germany (KRM) uses astronomical calculations to determine these dates, following guidelines from the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC).
Similarly, the Fiqh Council of North America announced on February 28th that Muslims in the United States and Canada will begin fasting on Monday, March 11th, with Eid al-Fitr on April 10th.
Although Saudi Arabia typically relies on visual crescent sighting, the Supreme Court also announced a start date of March 11th, 2024. The United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Bahrain, Yemen and several other Arab states are following suit with a March 11th start.
Egypt and Qatar also announced March 11th as the first day of Ramadan, while Jordan and Oman will begin on Tuesday, March 12th.

In Belgium, the Executive of Muslims announced a March 11th start date, encouraging citizens to use Ramadan for good deeds towards those in need.
