At the invitation of the Lebanese Communist Party, 17 left-wing Arab organizations from 10 countries in the region met last weekend in Beirut, Lebanon. Morocco was represented by the Unified Socialist Party (PSU).

However, the organizers did not invite the Polisario to the congress, despite pressure from certain political groups, such as the Syrian Social Nationalist Party.

«The exclusion of the Polisario was the condition we demanded to take part in this meeting. It was accepted by the organizers», PSU Secretary General Jamal El Asri told Yabiladi. This outcome is the result of mobilization efforts that the PSU carried out last June at a conference in support of Gaza, also held in Beirut and marked by the participation of left-wing Arab formations.

For the record, the Polisario had previously taken advantage of this Arab forum to organize a meeting with the controversial theme: «From Western Sahara to Palestine, the Genocide Continues». This event was largely shunned by the majority of left-wing Arab parties.
