Marrakech and its surrounding areas were hit by unusually heavy rainfall on Sunday, October 13, 2024. In just fifteen minutes, the city saw around 25 mm of torrential rain, leading to significant flooding in key areas, according to the National Airports Office (ONDA) on Monday.

The downpour, which overwhelmed the city’s drainage systems, caused some damage to pipes at Marrakech-Menara Airport, resulting in water infiltrations in various parts of the terminal, ONDA noted in a press release.

Despite these challenges, airport infrastructure and operations remained mostly unaffected, though some incoming flights were diverted due to the severe weather.

In anticipation of the storm, ONDA quickly activated a crisis unit, mobilizing teams and implementing necessary measures to manage the situation.

The organization reassured passengers, airlines, and partners that both the airport and aeronautical facilities in Marrakech are fully operational, with air traffic continuing as normal for both departures and arrivals, the release concluded.
