On Wednesday, November 27, in Rabat, the Moroccan Parliament was granted «advanced partner» status with the Forum of Presidents of the Legislative Powers of Central America, the Caribbean, and Mexico (FOPREL). The Moroccan legislative institution had been an observer member of the same body since 2014.

In February 2022, the Central American Parliament (Parlacen) granted Morocco «advanced partner» status. Parlacen brings together Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama, and the Dominican Republic. With the exception of Nicaragua, the other states in this group recognize Morocco's sovereignty over the Sahara or support the autonomy plan.

The kingdom's relations with Parlacen have undergone an evolution, notably after the end of the mandate of the former president, Colombian senator Gloria Florez, who was close to Algeria and the Polisario. Since April 2018, Morocco has also enjoyed the status of permanent observer member of the Latin American and Caribbean Parliament (Parlatino), which brings together all the countries in the two geographical areas. Last October, Algeria obtained the same status.

On Wednesday, the Moroccan capital hosted a meeting of the Forum of Presidents of the Legislative Powers of Central America, the Caribbean, and Mexico (FOPREL).
