Morocco dominates CAF Awards shortlists with multiple nominations across categories

On Thursday, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced the final list of nominees for the 2024 African Player of the Year award.

Among the nominees for Best African Player is Moroccan international Achraf Hakimi, who plays for Paris Saint-Germain. He joins Brighton’s Simon Adingra, Borussia Dortmund’s Serhou Guirassy, Atalanta’s Ademola Lookman, and South Africa’s Ronwen Williams of Mamelodi Sundowns.

Sanaa Messaoudi of the Royal Army and the women's national team, alongside Zambia’s Barbra Banda and Nigeria’s Chiamaka Nnadozie, are nominated for Best Local Player.

Royal Army’s Doha El Madani and Sanaa Messaoudi, alongside Marta Flora Lacho of Congo’s TP Mazembe, are nominated for Best Local Player.

Morocco’s Doha El Madani will also compete against Habiba Sabry of Egypt’s Masar and Chiamaka Cristabel Okwuchukwu of Nigeria’s Rivers Angels.

The CAF has also nominated Royal Army’s goalkeeper, Khadija Ramichi, who will compete with Chiamaka Nnadozie of Nigeria’s Paris FC and Andile Dlamini of South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns.

Mohamed Amine Alioua, coach of the Royal Army, is shortlisted for Women’s Coach of the Year, alongside Moroccan Lamia Boumehdi, coach of TP Mazembe of Congo, and Thinasonke Mbuli of South Africa’s Cape Town.

Morocco is represented in the final list for Best Women’s Team by the Royal Army, alongside TP Mazembe of Congo and Edo Queens of Nigeria.

The CAF has also nominated the women's team for the continent's Best Team award, alongside Nigeria and South Africa.

The CAF awards ceremony will be held on December 16 in Marrakech.
