The Republic of Ghana has announced its decision to suspend diplomatic relations with «SADR». This move was officially communicated in a document from Ghana's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, addressed to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates of the Kingdom of Morocco.
Ghana has stated that it will immediately inform, through diplomatic channels, the Government of the Kingdom of Morocco, the African Union, and the United Nations of this new position.
In the same document, Ghana expressed its support for the «good-faith efforts made by the Kingdom of Morocco to reach a solution accepted by all parties» regarding the disputed territory.
Ghana had initially recognized the «sadr» in 1979. However, due to the renewed focus on the Moroccan Sahara issue, a total of 46 countries, including 13 African nations, have either severed or suspended their relations with the «sadr» since 2000.
