The year 2025 has commenced with a significant military action by the Royal Armed Forces (FAR) targeting the Polisario militias. According to a Moroccan security source, the operation took place on Saturday, January 11, when an RAF drone struck south of Bir Lahlou. The strike targeted two vehicles belonging to the Front that had entered the area, located east of the Sand Wall. The initial reports indicate that four members of the Polisario were killed in the attack.
This incursion into Bir Lahlou coincided with Brahim Ghali, the leader of the Polisario, attending an African Union meeting in Kampala, Uganda. The meeting, held on January 10 and 11, focused on agriculture.
The Polisario Front appears to have a strategy of initiating armed operations against the RAF during continental or international gatherings. This tactic aims to demonstrate the ongoing conflict in the Sahara to the participants of these high-profile meetings.
