Spain's Guardia Civil has reported the arrest of seven individuals suspected of being affiliated with Daech, as part of a coordinated security operation with Morocco's General Directorate for Territorial Surveillance (DGST).
In the province of Toledo, three suspects were detained following intelligence from the DGST regarding a group at an advanced stage of radicalization, according to a statement from the Guardia Civil.
The investigation revealed that one of the suspects was actively influencing his circle by disseminating jihadist propaganda. This material was shared on social media by several of his followers, including a minor who was also apprehended during the operation.
Searches conducted during the operation, in which the DGST played a pivotal role, resulted in the confiscation of multimedia materials promoting terrorist organizations and acts of violence, such as suicide attacks, the statement noted.
Further operations in the provinces of Pontevedra and Madrid led to the arrest of additional suspects who were found to be concealing jihadist propaganda within videos that ostensibly promoted physical activity and self-defense techniques.
These operations, supported by the DGST, were conducted under the oversight of the Central Investigation Court, in collaboration with the Public Prosecutor's Office of the Spanish National Audience. Europol also provided assistance in efforts to dismantle these networks.
