Morocco : Father rescued, search ongoing for 9-year-old swept into sewage canal in Berkane

In a tragic incident in Berkane, a father and his daughter fell into a sewage canal, Thursday, after heavy rainfall flooded an open manhole. While some young men managed to rescue the father, who was accompanying his daughter to tutoring sessions, the search is still ongoing for the nine-year-old girl.

The girl is believed to have been swept away by the strong current after falling into a manhole connected to a canal that flows into Oued Cheraa, located nearby. Civil protection and national security teams quickly arrived at the scene and launched search operations to locate the missing child.

According to media sources, the neighborhood is undergoing city renovation work, leaving several manholes open, which contributed to the rapid flow of water. Videos circulating on social media show residents expressing their outrage, condemning the unsafe conditions that led to the tragedy.
