Moroccan Minister of the Interior Abdelouafi Laftit received his Gambian counterpart, Abdoulie Sanyang, on Tuesday in Rabat. Sanyang is on an official visit to Morocco from April 7 to 11.
According to a statement from Morocco’s Ministry of the Interior, the meeting builds on joint efforts launched following the signing of a memorandum of understanding on security between the two countries on January 25, 2024, in Dakhla.
During the meeting, the two ministers reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing cooperation in public security and the fight against terrorism, irregular migration, and transnational crime—particularly drug and human trafficking.
Several priority areas for collaboration were identified, including specialized training for Gambian police officers in canine units, sports event security, and anti-money laundering measures. The partnership will also involve exchanging expertise in criminal investigations, biometric identification, and public order management.
As part of the visit, the Gambian delegation will tour the Royal Police Institute in Kenitra to observe training programs, canine units, and the institute’s educational facilities.
This visit, and the momentum it reflects, underscores a shared ambition to establish Moroccan-Gambian cooperation as a model of efficiency and solidarity in both regional and international security.
