A national support committee for Mohamed El Ghalloussi, president of the Moroccan Association for the Protection of Public Property (AMPBP), as well as for anti-corruption activists, was established on Sunday in Casablanca following a meeting at the headquarters of the Democratic Confederation of Labor (CDT).
The assembly brought together political, trade union, democratic, and human rights organizations, along with NGOs, to coordinate solidarity initiatives with El Ghalloussi, who is facing prosecution based on a complaint filed by a deputy implicated in financial corruption cases and already convicted in some of them.
In its statement, the support committee denounced the prosecution as an example of the restrictions faced by anti-corruption activists when exposing the misuse of public funds. It also voiced concern over the adoption of the Code of Criminal Procedure, which it argued restricts civil society actors in pursuing legal action and limits the Public Prosecutor’s Office in prosecuting those involved.
The committee added that it is exploring practical ways to support activists facing judicial pressure. To this end, it announced the creation of a mechanism led by Abdelati Arbi’a as national coordinator and Abdelghani Raki as rapporteur.
The secretariat further noted that a detailed declaration and a mobilization program will be released soon.
