Spanish authorities have arrested a former Civil Guard, dismissed from the force 20 years ago for criminal activity, at the Beni Ansar border crossing in Nador as he attempted to smuggle roughly 30 kilograms of hashish into Spain, Civil Guard sources told EFE.

The man, expelled from the force in 2005, was carrying a forged ID card. The photo showed him not in uniform but wearing a shirt with the Central Operations Unit logo, and the document bore a falsified signature of the Civil Guard’s director-general.

Moroccan authorities confirmed the arrest, noting that the drugs were concealed in his private car with Spanish license plates as he tried to cross into Melilla. The public prosecutor in Nador has opened a judicial investigation to establish the full circumstances and determine possible ties to an international drug trafficking network.

On the same day, a separate incident occurred in the Strait of Gibraltar. A person was killed when a boat used for smuggling hashish collided with a Civil Guard naval patrol off the coast of Cala Arena in Algeciras.
