The political bureau of the Party of Progress and Socialism (PPS) has emerged as the first in Morocco to respond to the arrest of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, denouncing what it calls an «American imperialist aggression» against Venezuela.
In an official statement, the party voiced its «deep concern and strongest condemnation of the military operations conducted by the American administration on Venezuelan soil, particularly in the capital, Caracas. It also decried the grave act of abducting the legitimately and democratically elected President Nicolas Maduro and his wife».
The PPS further expressed «unwavering solidarity with the Venezuelan people, asserting their inalienable and sovereign right to self-determination, independence, and the management of their internal affairs and national resources, free from foreign interference».
Under the leadership of Nabil Benabdellah since 2010, the party views this «heinous attack as a dangerous, irresponsible, and utterly unacceptable escalation». It concluded by urging «the international community, all nations committed to peace and justice, and the United Nations, including the Security Council and the General Assembly, to take urgent action and fulfill their historical and moral responsibilities».
Notably, the PPS Secretary-General visited Venezuela and Cuba last July.
