On Tuesday, the Algerian Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf welcomed Massad Boulos, Senior Advisor to the President of USA on Arab and Middle Eastern Affairs and concurrently Senior Advisor for Africa at the U.S. Department of State, who is currently on an official visit to Algeria.

In a brief statement, the Algerian Foreign Ministry announced that Attaf and Boulos engaged in a private bilateral meeting, which was subsequently followed by an expanded session that included members from both the Algerian and American delegations.

The statement noted that the meeting served as a platform to review various facets of Algerian-American relations, focusing on strategies to strengthen and elevate them to their fullest potential. Both parties also exchanged «views on the most prominent current issues in the Arab world and the African continent, particularly the developments in Libya, the Sahel and Sahara region, as well as Western Sahara», though no further details about these discussions were disclosed.

This visit marks Boulos's second trip to Algeria in less than six months and coincides with the recent return of a Polisario Front delegation from Washington, where they met with an official from President Donald Trump's administration. A source familiar with the matter informed Yabiladi that during the meeting, the American official reiterated that the sole framework for negotiation remains the Moroccan autonomy initiative for Western Sahara, under Moroccan sovereignty, in line with UN Security Council Resolution 2797 adopted on October 31.

Masad Boulos has also previously conveyed in various media statements the U.S. administration's intention to mediate between Algeria and Rabat, aiming to foster reconciliation between the neighboring countries.
