International condemnation continues to mount against the Polisario Front following its attack on the city of Smara on May 5. After the United States, France, and the European Union voiced their disapproval, the United Kingdom, Belgium, the United Arab Emirates, and the Czech Republic have also joined in denouncing the assault.
The United Kingdom, via its embassy in Rabat, expressed its disapproval of «the Polisario attacks that took place on May 5, which risk undermining efforts towards peace.»
The UK reiterated its backing for the United Nations and United States' initiatives to resolve the Western Sahara conflict, in accordance with UN Security Council Resolution 2797.
It urged all parties to engage with a spirit of compromise to reach a lasting solution.

In a similar vein, Belgium condemned the attack and called for «respecting the ceasefire as stipulated in UN Security Council Resolution 2797 (2025).» It urged all parties to participate in good faith in the ongoing negotiations, based on Morocco's autonomy plan, to achieve a fair, lasting, and mutually acceptable resolution to the conflict, in line with the United Nations Charter.

The Czech Embassy in Rabat also voiced its strong condemnation of «the recent attack on Smara claimed by the Polisario Front.» It declared that «escalation must stop in line with UN Security Council Resolution 2797 (2025), taking Morocco's Autonomy Plan as the basis for a just, lasting, and mutually acceptable solution consistent with the UN Charter.»

Terrorist Attack
In its first response from a Gulf state, the United Arab Emirates condemned «the terrorist attack that targeted the Moroccan city of Smara, resulting in the injury of one person.»
The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized in a statement that «the UAE strongly condemns these criminal acts and consistently rejects all forms of violence, extremism, and terrorism aimed at undermining security and stability.»
The ministry reaffirmed the UAE's «steadfast solidarity and full support for the Kingdom of Morocco and its legitimate sovereign rights in the Moroccan Sahara, and all that preserves the security, stability, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of the Kingdom, contributing to enhancing peace, stability, and sustainable prosperity in the region.»

Elsewhere in the Arab world, Jordan condemned the Polisario attack on Smara and expressed its full solidarity with Morocco.

Like Bahrain and Saudi Arabia, Qatar also condemned the attack on Smara and reaffirmed its support for Morocco’s sovereignty over its Sahara.

It added that amid ongoing negotiations between various parties to make progress, «this latest attack is regrettable and serves as a reminder of the urgent need to return to the ceasefire, in accordance with the provisions of UN Security Council Resolution 2797 (2025), which must be respected.»
It considered that this type of violence undermines regional stability and threatens the progress made towards a peaceful resolution, as outlined in the autonomy proposal under Moroccan sovereignty.
