The Africa Forward Summit opened Tuesday in Nairobi, with Morocco’s Head of Government Aziz Akhannouch representing King Mohammed VI at the event held under the theme.

The Moroccan delegation includes Minister of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development Leila Benali, Minister of Health and Social Protection Amine Tehraoui, and Minister Delegate in charge of Investment, Convergence, and the Evaluation of Public Policies Karim Zidane.

Also attending are Mohamed Methqal, ambassador and director general of the Moroccan Agency for International Cooperation (AMCI), Morocco’s ambassador to Kenya and South Sudan Abderrazzak Laassel, as well as a delegation from the General Confederation of Moroccan Enterprises (CGEM) led by its president Chakib Alj.

Co-organized by Kenya and France, the summit brings together Kenyan President William Ruto and French President Emmanuel Macron alongside several African leaders to discuss ways to strengthen partnerships between France and African countries.

Presented as the first summit of its kind to be hosted and co-chaired with an English-speaking African country, Africa Forward aims to promote «strong and balanced» Africa-France partnerships based on economic complementarities and focused on delivering concrete benefits for populations.

The gathering brings together representatives from governments, businesses, youth organizations, cultural sectors, civil society, and diasporas, with the stated goal of accelerating cross-investment and developing practical responses to shared challenges.

Discussions are also expected to address issues related to sovereignty, competitiveness, peace, and security, in line with African Union priorities.

According to organizers, conclusions from the summit are expected to help shape discussions ahead of the G7 Summit, which France is set to host in Evian from June 15 to 17 next year.
