Morocco’s National Human Rights Council (CNDH) was elected on Wednesday to chair the Artificial Intelligence Working Group of the Francophone Network of National Human Rights Institutions.
The election took place with unanimous support from representatives of member institutions from Togo, Gabon, Benin, Belgium, France, and Morocco, CNDH said in a press release.
The Francophone Network of National Human Rights Institutions brings together 29 national human rights bodies. The Moroccan council had previously hosted the network’s conference and international symposium on artificial intelligence in December 2025.
According to the CNDH, support for Morocco’s candidacy was driven by the institution’s experience and work on human rights, digital spaces, and artificial intelligence, as well as the international advocacy efforts led by its president, Amina Bouayach, within the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions. Her advocacy has focused on promoting a human rights-based approach to the governance, regulation, design, training, use, and impact assessment of AI systems.
