Indonesia’s Halal Product Assurance Agency (BPJPH) signed a Mutual Recognition Agreement (MRA) with Morocco’s Moroccan Institute of Standardization on Wednesday in Jakarta, establishing mutual recognition of halal certificates between the two countries, local media reported.

The agreement was signed by BPJPH head Ahmad Haikal Hasan and Morocco’s ambassador to Indonesia, Redouane Houssaini, as part of a broader series of international halal cooperation deals concluded by Indonesia with several foreign certification bodies from France, Italy, China, and South Korea.

Speaking after the signing ceremony, Ahmad Haikal Hasan said stronger cooperation between countries would facilitate halal trade flows and broaden access for halal products to international markets.

He added that halal certification has evolved beyond religious compliance to become «a symbol of quality assurance, healthy products, and premium global standards».

The agreement comes as Indonesia seeks to position itself as a major global halal industry hub with an internationally recognized certification system.
