Morocco's Consul General in Bologna, Khadija Ndour, visited Thursday the family of Abderrahim Fakir, the Moroccan national who died during a police intervention in the Italian city on July 19, to offer condolences and reaffirm the kingdom's support as arrangements are made to repatriate his body.

According to a statement issued by the Moroccan Consulate General in Bologna, the visit was carried out on instructions from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The consul assured the family that Morocco's diplomatic and consular services remain fully mobilized to provide administrative, legal and consular assistance throughout the case.

The consulate said it is maintaining direct contact with the Italian judicial authorities, in coordination with the Moroccan embassy in Rome, to follow the ongoing investigation while respecting Italian legal procedures. It also confirmed that it is assisting the family with all administrative formalities required to transfer Fakir's remains to Morocco, including obtaining the necessary judicial authorizations, to ensure the repatriation is completed as quickly as possible.

The statement follows Morocco's call for a thorough investigation into Fakir's death and for those responsible to be held accountable, after the 42-year-old died while being restrained by police in Bologna, sparking protests across Italy.
