The ranking of Moroccan schools and universities on the internet is disappointing. Webometrics Ranking of World Universities has released its latest ranking in July.

Conducted by Cybermetrics Lab, which belongs to the Council of Scientific Research (CSI), the Spanish public research organization has included more than 8,000 universities on the internet.

It also used four criteria to evaluate these establishments, namely : visibility (50%), the number of web pages (20%), number of documents pdf, doc, ppt and ps (15%= and lastly the number of articles published on Google Scholar (15%).

According to this world ranking, Moroccan universities and schools are not among the 500 top ones. The first university to make it to the list is Cadi Ayyad in Marrakech, ranked 1994th, followed by Mohammed I University of Ouda (2461st ), Mohammed V University of Rabat (2873rd) and Ibn Zohr University of Agadir (3168th).

As for private universities, Al Akhawayn University in Ifrane was ranked 3255th while the International University of Rabat was in the 4477th place.

Regionally, Cadi Ayyad is ninth while the eight first places were overtaken by Egyptian universities. Unsurprisingly, American universities topped the ranking. Harvard was first, followed by Stanford 2nd and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology 3rd.
