The Moroccan writer and journalist Abdelkarim Ghallab dead at 98

The Moroccan journalist and writer, Abdelkarim Ghallab passed away on Sunday night in El Jadida at 98, his family said on Monday.

The deceased was a political journalist, a novelist and a cultural commentator. He was a well-known and distinguished figure of the national movement where he fought as a militant, an intellectual and journalist. Abdelkarim Ghallab, who headed Al Alam newspaper for several decades until early 2000's, is the author of five novels and three collections of short stories. He is famous for writing a novel entitled «Dafann al-m'd» (the burried past) in 1966.

He graduated from both Al Qaraouiyin University and Cairo University with a bachlor degree in Arabic literature, he also contributed to the creation of the Union of Moroccan Writers (EMU), which he chaired from 1968 to 1976.

Abdelkarim Ghallab is a member of the Academy of the Moroccan Kingdom. He will be buried on Tuesday afternoon in Rabat.
