Moroccan Imams in Hesse, a central German state highlighted the primordial role of Imams in fighting against extremism and in promoting the values of coexistence in the German society.
At a recent meeting with MP Gerhard Merz, chairman of the socialist group's integration and social affairs committee in the Parliament of Hesse, Moroccan imams have stressed their rejection of the negative image and stereotype attributed to worshipers and preachers by some media platforms and politicians.
The meeting was held during a training program organized for 40 Imams by the Goeth Institute. The event was also an opportunity for those Imams to discuss the rise of Islamophobia in Germany.
Abdessamad El Yazidi, coordinator of the project for the linguistic and cultural upgrading of imams at the Goethe Institute, highlighted the areas of work of imams in the German context and their role in creating secure meeting spaces, based on the values of respect and coexistance.
Meanwhile, MP Gerhard Merz welcomed the imams' initiative to learn the German language and their visit to the regional parliament of Hesse.
This visit closes the final focus of the Imams training program, which discussed the political system in Germany.
