On behalf of the Central African Republic (CAR) configuration of the Peacebuilding Commission (CCP), of which he is president, Morocco deplored the recent rise in violence in the CAR in New York on Tuesday of peacekeeping capacity (UNMISCA).

«Armed groups cannot take care of the whole political process», Foreign and International Cooperation Minister, Nasser Bourita said during a high-level meeting organized to discuss the situation in the Central African Republic at the UN 72nd General Assembly (UNGA).

The minister particularly warned against «the ethnic and confessional nature of this violence, recently observed in Bangassou, a region symbolizing until recently tolerance and cohabitation».

In this regard, and from a security standpoint, Mr. Bourita considered that the peacekeeping capacity of MINUSCA should be increased, given the resurgence of violence, the vast territory it covers and the near absence of national security forces.

Welcoming the remarkable work of MINUSCA, the Minister paid tribute to the peacekeepers who died in the line of duty, including Moroccan soldiers who sacrificed their lives to defend the lives of vulnerable populations, that the perpetrators of these killings are apprehended and judged for their acts.

He assured that Morocco, long-time partner of the CAR, has always responded to support this sister countryand friend in the most difficult moments.

The minister did not fail to highlight the urgency of the humanitarian situation in the CAR, noting that increased support from donors remains more than necessary, given that the humanitarian response plan for 2017 is funded only height of 30%.
