The United Nations Personal Envoy for Western Sahara Horst Köhler met on Monday, 3rd of September, with the president of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), Peter Maurer. The later was visiting Berlin, where he held talks with German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier.

The food requirements of the Tindouf camp population were at the heart of the discussion Köhler and Maurer had yesterday. ICRC is working on the cases of Sahrawis who went missing and others wounded during the war as well as on strengthening confidence-building between Morocco and the Polisario Front.

The humanitarian institution based in Geneva, Switzerland, is often contacted by NGOs close to the Front to intervene in cases related to Sahrawi detainees, tried for the Gdim Izik events.

In March, they asked ICRC to send an observation mission to Morocco to check on the Gdim Izik detainees.
