Prince Moulay Rachid represented King Mohammed VI at the funeral of former United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan, which took place on Thursday in Accra.

Prince Moulay Rachid was accompanied by Morocco's ambassador to Ghana, Mohamed Farahat.

The funeral was attended by several African Head of States, including Ivorian and Liberian presidents, Alassane Ouattara and George Weah respectively, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, as well as numerous personalities from around the world.

King Mohammed VI had sent a message of condolences and compassion to members of the family of late Kofi Annan.

In this message, the sovereign lauded the human qualities of the deceased who has proved to be very competent in every diplomatic mission entrusted to him.

The King also hailed the unwavering commitment by late Annan to world peace which earned him the Nobel peace prize.

Kofi Annan died on August 18 at the age of 80 after a short illness.

He was the seventh Secretary-General and served for two terms between 1997 and 2006.
