The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) have recently arrested 87 women for joining ISIS, 7 of them were Moroccan nationals. According to Northern Observatory for Human Rights (ONDH), the Moroccan women were accompanied by two children.

The NGO, which reported the arrest, indicated that four of these women are from the city of Larache, while the rest are from Casablanca. They were arrested «during their attempt to enter Turkey in order to return to Morocco».

The same source says that the seven women were staying at the Al-Hol refugee camp (northeastern Syria), bordering Iraq. In a communiqué, the Northern Observatory for Human Rights recalls that they have reached the Moroccan government to inform them about several Moroccan women in their children stuck in Syria.

The NGO urged the authorities to contact the parties in charge in Syria to repatriate the Moroccan women and their children.

The association emphasized the responsibility of the Moroccan state, stressing that the arrested women might face «death sentences».
