An ONCF train derailed on Friday morning near Casa Port railway station in Casablanca. The incident took place at around 8am. The reasons behind the train’s derailment are not known.
Contacted by Yabiladi, a source within ONCF, Morocco’s national railway operator, confirmed the information. The same source stated that «it was a minor accident that did not impact rail traffic». Meanwhile, ONCF has not communicated on the incident yet.
Meanwhile, ONCF reacted to the incident on its Facebook page, indicating that «the derailment was caused by a collision».
Morocco’s national railway operator explained that the incident occurred after «two trains collided when leaving a rail depot at the Casablanca port», adding that «rail traffic was not impacted».
This incident comes as a tragedy took place Tuesday, October the 16th, near Bouknadel, when a train run off its rails killing seven people and injuring 125 others. ONCF announced at the time that a new railway signaling will be installed between Casablanca and Rabat.
