Morocco’s ambassador to the United Nations, Omar Hilale, briefed the Security Council, on Thursday, on his recent visit to the Republic of Central Africa, as Chair of the Central African Republic Configuration of the UN Peacebuilding Commission.
Hilale said that exchanges with civil society revealed an enormous appetite for peace and justice, as well as hope for a better future.
Communicating the agreement’s contents and challenges will be key, and translating the text into Sango, the national language, will facilitate ownership among the people and deter the spread of rumors, he noted.
Council members expressed their support for the Bangui Accord, while many of them underlined the urgent need to address serious humanitarian concerns and development challenges. It was also suggested that MINUSCA support quick-impact projects so as to speed up disarmament, demobilization, repatriation and reintegration efforts.
On this occasion, the Central African Republic's foreign minister and the members of the Security Council lauded the commitment of the Kingdom of Morocco at the head of the Configuration.
They also expressed their support to Hilale's recommendations on the political situation and the implementation of the peace agreement, calling on the Configuration to continue its efforts to support the peacebuilding process in this country.
