The United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) re-elected Morocco's Permanent Representative to the UN, ambassador Omar Hilale, by acclamation on Tuesday as vice-president of the Council and chairman of its humanitarian segment for 2020.

This re-election for a second consecutive term, a first in the annals of ECOSOC, is an illustration of the Kingdom's heritage of credibility and trust, particularly among the African Group, which appointed it to this position.

This extension for an additional year at the head of the humanitarian Segment of ECOSOC also represents a recognition of the unanimously acclaimed achievements made by Morocco in 2019.

Speaking on this occasion, Hilale expressed his gratitude for the African Group's renewed confidence in Morocco. He pledged to continue the many reflections and structural reforms undertaken with a view, in particular, to strengthening ECOSOC and its humanitarian segment, consolidating its impact on the ground, streamlining its work, and making it more visible, in order to meet the needs of millions of people in crisis situations around the world.
