The United States will start importing Moroccan raspberries, Morocco’s National Office of Food Safety (ONSSA) announced on Tuesday.
In a press release sent to Yabiladi, ONSSA said it negotiated with the American Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) an action plan to allow these imports. This action plan will allow the United States to export Moroccan raspberries for the first time.
The American authorities want the Moroccan raspberries to be packaged by ONSSA’s authorized packaging units before shipping. They also require that a phytosanitary certificate issued by the Office must accompany all exports.
This certificate attests that raspberries were actually produced and packaged in accordance with the requirements of the United States.
ONSSA recalls that Morocco exports more than 140,000 tons of red fruit per year to more than forty countries, including the member countries of the European Union.
