Fourteen people, including two children, died while trying to reach the Canary Islands, Spanish newspaper La Provincia wrote on Tuesday, quoting an NGO called «Watch the Med».
These migrants were near the Moroccan coast when their boat capsized. The Royal Moroccan Navy rescued fourteen other migrants after a Moroccan fisherman alerted the authorities, survivors told the NGO.
Spanish activist Helena Maleno, founder of the NGO «Caminando Fronteras», told the Spanish news agency EFE that the survivors were transferred to the surroundings of Laayoune. She also indicated that the migrants were from Guinea Conakry and Côte d'Ivoire.
