As of Monday, Morocco recorded 191 confirmed coronavirus cases, bringing the total number of Covid-19 infections in the country to 3,046.
Two deaths have been recorded, bringing the total number of Covid-19 deaths in the country to 143. Morocco also recorded 23 recoveries, bringing the number of patients who recovered from the disease to 350.
During the daily press briefing devoted to the pandemic situation in Morocco, the head of the epidemiology and the fight against infectious diseases department at the Ministry of Health, Mohamed Lyoubi indicated that 13,340 suspected cases have tested negative for the virus since the start of the pandemic.
Among the new aspects characterizing the spread of the virus in the country is the discovery of several cases in industrial units and within the same families.
In factories, 31 infections were recorded in Casablanca and two new outbreaks were discovered in Tangier with 15 and 31 cases respectively. An outbreak was also discovered in another firm in Larache, with 13 infections, in addition to a second one in Oujda, where six cases were recorded.
Mohamed Lyoubi indicated that the fatality rate is falling. It is now at 4.7%, against 11% for the recovery rate. The average age of patients is also declining, at 42 years-old. According to the official, the percentage of patients aged between 40 and 65 remains the highest.
96% of the confirmed cases showed mild symptoms upon admission to the hospital, while 4% were in critical or severe condition. It was also noted that 80% of deaths due to the coronavirus concerned patients admitted in critical or severe condition, only 20% of the patients who died were admitted in a stable condition.
The regions with the highest infections are Casablanca-Settat and Marrakech-Safi, which house more than 50% of the confirmed cases.
