Polisario seeks Algeria backed support at Pan African Parliament
DR

The Polisario Front is strategically leveraging Algeria’s leadership of the Pan-African Parliament (PAP) to align the African legislative body with its agenda. A key meeting took place yesterday in Midrand, South Africa, between PAP President Fateh Boutbig from Algeria and the Polisario's representative in Pretoria, who conveyed a message from Bachir Mustapha Sayed, the «president of the Sahrawi Parliament».

Amid declining influence in Africa, the Polisario is seeking fresh alliances, betting on the Pan-African Parliament to enhance its visibility and establish a new platform, particularly given that Fateh Boutbig had promised during his campaign to back the Front’s positions. This promise was reiterated in early April in the Tindouf camps, coinciding with the 50th anniversary of the Polisario’s founding.

This meeting with the PAP president is part of a broader diplomatic initiative recently undertaken by top Polisario officials throughout Africa. They are carrying messages from Brahim Ghali to bolster relations with African countries that recognize the «SADR», aiming to fortify their support on the continent.
