As of Wednesday evening, Morocco recorded 237 new confirmed coronavirus cases, bringing the total number of Covid-19 infections in the country to 3,446.
During the daily press briefing, the head of the epidemiology and the fight against infectious diseases department at the Ministry of Health, Mohamed Lyoubi said that the new virus hotbed detected this week in Ouarzazate is among the largest, as it includes 186 cases.
«No new cases were recorded in the other hotbeds, except for that of Tangier, where 16 new cases were confirmed, bringing the total number of cases to 46», he added.
«While the Casablanca-Settat and Marrakech-Safi regions still have the highest number of infections, the Draâ-Tafilalet region now records nearly 8% of the total confirmed cases and ranks sixth among the regions» in Morocco.
The average age of infected people has fallen to 41 years, while the patients aged between 40 and 65 represent 38% of the cases, followed by those aged between 25 and 40 years (30%).
Between Tuesday at 6 p.m. and Wednesday, Morocco also recorded four new deaths, bringing the death toll from Covid-19 to 149, as well as 24 new recoveries, 417 in total. The official noted in this regard that the fatality rate reached 4.3%.
