Coronavirus : More than half of the new cases recorded in the Casablanca-Settat region

As of Saturday, May 16, Morocco recorded 89 new cases of the novel coronavirus, bringing the total number of Covid-19 infections in the country to 6,741.

More than half of these cases were recorded in the Casablanca-Settat region, while the rest were located in Marrakech-Safi and Fez-Meknes, Mohamed Lyoubi, head of the epidemiology department at the Ministry of Health, said.

These five regions (Rabat-Kenitra, Souss-Massa, Guelmin-Oued Noun, Laâyoune-Sakia El Hamra and Dakhla-Oued Ed-Dahab) recorded no cases, while other regions, such as the Oriental, Beni-Mellal-Khenifra and Draâ-Tafilalet have only recorded one or a few cases in the recent days, he added.

Morocco recorded two additional deaths between Friday and Saturday, bringing the total number of people killed by Covid-19 to 192. However, the case fatality rate dropped to 2.8%.

In addition, 87 new recoveries were recorded, bringing the total number of recoveries to 3,487, hence a recovery rate of 51.7%.
