Efforts are underway Thursday to contain a fire that destroyed, in less than two days, nearly 300 hectares (ha) of the Akemsane forest, located in the commune of Bab Berred (province of Chefchaouen).
More than 270 elements of the Water and Forests Department, Civil Protection, Auxiliary Forces, Royal Armed Forces, Royal Gendarmerie, as well as local and provincial authorities and volunteers from the local population are still mobilized to control the fire, which broke out Tuesday at 2:00 p.m., with the support two Canadair planes of the Royal Air Force, the regional director of waters and forests in the Rif, Benjira Said, told MAP.
According to initial estimates, this fire has destroyed nearly 300 hectares of vegetation.
An investigation was opened to shed light on the causes of the fire.
