Nominated twice by President Donald Trump, the United States ambassador to Morocco David Fischer has waited 586 days to get confirmed by the Senate. This delay is dubbed unprecedented, especially as previous American ambassadors to the Kingdom waited on average three months.
Set up in July 2018 at an African Union summit in Nouakchott, the troika on Western Sahara held one unofficial meeting in February in Addis Ababa. A second meeting, scheduled for July 8 in Niamey, has been postponed to a later date.
