In a letter sent to Prime Minister Saadeddine El Othmani, the head of Yemen’s Houthi movement thanked Morocco for «ceasing» military operations with Saudi-led coalition. This comes as Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita said that Morocco is still part of the coalition.
Speaking to the Associated Press, sources from the Moroccan and Saudi governments said that Rabat has recalled its ambassador to Riyadh. They confirmed that Morocco has ceased military operations with the Saudi-led coalition in Yemen’s war.
In Washington, Foreign Affairs Minister Nasser Bourita met with his counterpart Mike Pompeo. The two officials discussed Morocco’s efforts to «counter Iran’s malign influence». Attending the meeting of the Global Coalition to defeat ISIS, Bourita did not meet John Bolton as predicted.
In an interview broadcast on Qatari channel Al Jazeera on January the 23rd, Moroccan Foreign Minister hinted at the fact that Rabat had serious reservations about Mohammed Bin Salman's recent tour to Arab countries. On Thursday, Saudi channel Al Arabiya fired back at the Kingdom through a video on the Western Sahara conflict.
