Across the Arab world, the announcement of normalization of ties with Israel draws mixed reactions.
In a phone call with King Mohammed VI, President Donald Trump announced that his country recognizes Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara. The decision comes as Rabat agrees, in exchange, to normalize ties with Israel.
A survey conducted by a German think tank shows that Moroccans are more likely to defend the Palestinian cause than other countries in the region. While 63% of Moroccan respondents oppose the Abraham Accords, 70% of them have an unfavorable impression of Israel and see it as a threat to the region.
Five countries, including Morocco, would normalize ties with Israel in the near future, according to Eli Cohen, Israeli minister of Intelligence. The official said Israel will intensify normalization talks with five Arab countries after US presidential elections early November.
