While the Western Sahara issues remains one of the main reasons behind Morocco and South Africa’s political differences, the two countries have been trying to strengthen their economic ties.
According to the recent edition of the Economic Freedom Index, Morocco’s economy is the freest in North Africa. The country managed to improve its performance by implementing multiple financing options.
Morocco is ranked 15th in Africa by the 2018 Ibrahim Index of African Governance and 2nd in North Africa. Despite its improving performance, the Kingdom is lagging in the Human Rights and Participation subindex.
