On Tuesday, the UN Security Council adopted resolution 2468, extending the mandate of MINURSO by six months. Reacting to this decision, Morocco commended, through its Foreign Minister, the new resolution while the Polisario Front expressed its disappointment.
In February, both Senegalese and Nigerian presidents were re-elected for second terms. The situation in Senegal and Nigeria is a positive step for Morocco, which is wishing to gain the support of West African countries, politically and economically speaking.
The Southern African Development Community has announced recently the holding of a «conference» of solidarity with the Polisario Front. A decision that has not been given a date yet.
Angola has been one of the African countries that supported the Polisario Front, especially with Dos Santos as a president for 38 years. With the departure of the latter, Morocco can finally strengthen its diplomatic ties with the country.
