The Polisario raises concerns about Horst Kohler’s first observations on the situation in the Sahara

After the UN Personal Envoy, Horst Kohler submitted his initial observations regarding the situation in the Sahara, the Polisario Front has raised concerns. The closed meeting organized by the UN Security Council has come a few weeks after the UN official visited the region.

Horst Kohler is believed to have proposed a solution for the Western Sahara conflict, inspired by the advisory opinion given by the Court of International Justice in October 1975 recognizing the existence of legal ties of allegiance between the Sultan of Morocco and some of the tribes living in the territory of Western Sahara.  The Personal Envoy of the United Nations Secretary-General for Western Sahara has allegedly recommended the drafting of a «Sahrawi constitution».

Khat Ach’chahid to Horst Kohler : «The Polisario doesn’t have the right to negotiate on behalf of Sahrawis»  

The Martyr’s way (Khat Ach’chahid), an opposition movement within the Polisario Front, led by Mahjoub Salek, has sent a letter to the new personal envoy to the UN Secretary-General  for Western Sahara. A letter in which the movement recalls that the Front «doesn’t have the right to negotiate in the name of the Sahrawi people». Details.

Horst Köhler, the newly-appointed UN Personal Envoy for Western Sahara, officially took office on the 8th of September and has already met with senior UN officials, the UN said in a statement on Sunday.
