Officials in Madrid say Spanish shipowners are in a «complicated situation» as Morocco and the European Union are negotiating a new fisheries treaty. According to them even a new treaty will cause more delay.
The European Union and Morocco have not reached a settlement yet regarding the 2014 fisheries agreement. The latter expires on Saturday, 14th of July.
The European Commission adopted on June the 11th proposals amending the association agreement with the Kingdom of Morocco to grant preferences to products from Western Sahara, in line with ECJ ruling.
A few days before the UN Security Council adopts a new resolution on the Western Sahara, Morocco has managed to convince EU fisheries ministers to give the go-ahead for a new agreement. The latter will include the Sahara’s territorial waters.
