The laying of the foundation stone of the new US Consulate General in Casablanca took place this Thursday, in the presence of David T. Fischer, United States Ambassador to Morocco and Jennifer Rasamimanana, United States Consul General in Casablanca, indicates a statement from the US Embassy sent to Yabiladi.
On the Moroccan side, were present at this ceremony, the Director of Protocol within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Anas Khelas, the Wali of the Casablanca-Settat region, Said Ahmidouch, the city’s mayor, Abdelaziz El Omari as well as the governor of the Hay Hassani district, Khadija Benchouikh.
During the ceremony, the United States Ambassador to Morocco affirmed that his country «is banking on the future of Casablanca as a regional hub in the fields of business, commerce, culture and travel, while King Mohammed VI's plan to make Morocco the gateway to Africa is materializing».
«Composed of several buildings and green areas, the new premises represent an important and lasting investment which marks the American-Moroccan partnership», the press release recalls, noting that the project, endowed with a budget of more than 300 million dollars, will hire an average of 300 local workers in each of its stages, and will inject up to 100 million dollars into the Moroccan economy. The project is set to be completed by 2024.
The new consulate, located within the Casa Anfa urban development project, will occupy an overall area of 2.8 hectares (6.9 acres), with a design that combines contemporary American style with many historical influences from Morocco. In addition, the premises will be equipped with a photovoltaic solar energy system aiming to reduce energy consumption by 25%, the statement concludes.
