US President Joe Biden has signed the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for fiscal year 2024, the White House said in a statement.
The act does not condition military and security cooperation with Morocco on its commitment to open negotiations with the Polisario on the future of Western Sahara. Pro-Polisario members of Congress were discreet during the examination of the law.
On the other hand, the NDDA approved by American senators and House representatives dedicated a passage for the Joint Declaration between Morocco, the United States and Israel, signed in Rabat on December 22, 2020, before King Mohammed VI. A document which established the recognition of the United States of Morocco’s sovereignty over Western Sahara, recorded by former President Donald Trump, on December 10, 2020, and the reestablishment of diplomatic relations between Rabat and Tel Aviv.
The NDAA 2024 also highlighted that «the agreement between Israel and Morocco has resulted in the intelligence community obtaining new and valuable insights regarding national intelligence priorities».
The 2024 defense budget of the United States, adopted by both Houses of Congress, amounts to 886 billion dollars.
