A large security operation unfolded at Perpignan Airport in the Eastern Pyrenees on Tuesday, February 27, after X-ray screening detected potential explosive devices in a carry-on bag during a routine inspection.

The discovery triggered an immediate alarm, leading to the arrest of a man and the intervention of the bomb squad.

According to French media, airport security services flagged a particular bag during inspection. X-rays revealed potential explosive devices with wires inside the carry-on bag. Police described the objects as resembling explosive devices, based on their shape and presence of wires.

As a precaution, the airport was evacuated, with around 200 people, including 150 passengers on a flight bound for Agadir, leaving the area while demining experts were called in. The Montpellier deminers detonated the bag at approximately 12:15 PM, allowing the airport to reopen. The bag's owner, an Italian man traveling to Agadir, was apprehended.
