Algerian appeals rejected by CAS in USMA vs. RSB dispute

The Court of Arbitration for Sport's (CAS) Appeals Chamber dismissed, on May 10th, a new complaint filed by the Algerian Football Federation (FAF) and Union Sportive de la Médina d'Alger (USMA).

This May 8th complaint challenged the April 30th decision by the Confederation of African Football's (CAF) Appeals Committee, which awarded Renaissance Sportive de Berkane (RSB) victories in both legs of their CAF Cup semi-final against USMA.

This rejection comes after CAS dismissed another FAF complaint on May 3rd, requesting CAF to expedite a ruling on the canceled USMA vs. RSB semi-final matches.

CAF has scheduled a hearing for May 19th, after the CAF Cup final second leg, to examine the case.

For background, CAS previously rejected an FAF request for an urgent suspension of the CAF Appeals Committee's decision, which awarded RSB a 3-0 win in the first leg due to USMA's refusal to let RSB players wear shirts displaying the Moroccan map.

The return leg was also marred by controversy, as USMA refused to play against RSB because of their kit, which had been approved by CAF beforehand.
