Morocco’s General Directorate of Information Systems Security (DGSSI) has issued a series of recommendations for Moroccans potentially impacted by the recent Microsoft IT outage that occurred on Friday. This outage caused disruptions in various parts of the world, affecting airlines, banks, businesses, and even emergency services.

In its note, the DGSSI, an entity affiliated with the National Defense Administration, acknowledged the outage that left several users disconnected from their systems and caused critical errors, including the blue screen of death (BSOD) on Windows systems.

The DGSSI stated that the outage resulted from a recent update of «CrowdStrike on several Microsoft Windows systems». This problem affects system stability and, consequently, regular operations.

The note urges Moroccan users to first «identify affected systems running CrowdStrike Falcon on Windows systems» and to «delay CrowdStrike updates until the problem has been resolved».

It also recommends that Moroccan users «restore the system to a previous restore point if possible» and «always test updates in a test environment before applying them to the production environment».

The DGSSI emphasized the importance of «always making backups of your system so that you can restore it in the event of similar problems», adding that it is also crucial to notify the DGSSI of any incidents or service disruptions, as well as the measures taken in response.

This major technical failure has disrupted computer systems of numerous companies worldwide, impacting airports, TV channels, airline companies, and hospitals.

In Morocco, the website and mobile app of national carrier Royal Air Maroc (RAM) were also briefly affected by the global third-party IT outage. However, RAM quickly resolved the issue.
