Morocco is preparing to launch tenders for the construction of the first phases of the gas pipeline project with Nigeria within the next year, according to a report by Asharq Business based on the «2025 Action Plan» issued by the National Office of Hydrocarbons and Mines (ONHYM).
The project will stretch across 16 African countries—mostly along the Atlantic coast—connecting Nigeria to Morocco, where the pipeline will be linked to the Moroccan-European gas network and the European gas grid. The pipeline is expected to have a maximum capacity of 30 billion cubic meters per year of gas. The upcoming tenders will include projects located within Moroccan territory.
The first phase of the project will cover three countries: Morocco, Mauritania, and Senegal. Over the next year, agreements related to gas transportation will be signed, tenders for the pipeline construction will be launched, and a private company will be established to manage the project, including construction, operation, and maintenance, according to the document.
The project has made significant progress by passing key stages, such as conducting detailed studies, determining the route, and preparing economic studies, which confirmed the economic and strategic feasibility of the project.
